The biographical tale of Jake LaMotta’s rise and fall in and out of the ring was as entertaining as it was depressing, but mostly the latter. I don’t know why I even questioned if I would like it of course I did. Why hasn’t anyone told me about this damn movie? (Kidding, everyone has.) Encore (probably a little late for that, but I’d pay good money to watch De Niro back in the ring at his current age). Two hours and nine minutes of an emotional roller coaster later, here was my reaction: Bravo. I already kind of knew the plot just from all the years of hearing about it, but I still wasn’t quite sure how I’d feel at the end. So I threw my slippers on, turned the lights off and started up Netflix. But will I share that same sentiment? It was time to find out. That’s a pretty glowing review and just confirms everything I’ve already heard about the film.
